Leveraged Tokens are innovative assets that give you a leveraged exposure (usually between 2x to 3x) to the crypto market, allowing you to have a futures-market-like trading experience even though in the spot market.
Examples include; BTCUP, BTCDOWN, ETHUP, ETHDOWN, BNBUP, BNBDOWN etc.
What this means is that you can buy BTCDOWN if your analysis tells you that the price of BTC is on a downward trend. If your analysis is correct, as BTC continues to loose price value, you continue to make profits. On the other hand, if your prediction is wrong and the price of BTC rallies upwards, you will begin to make losses. Also, because these are leveraged tokens you will make more profits or losses compared to a user who just purchased normal BTC.
For example, if User A bought BTCUP with $10,000 and another User B buys BTC with $10,000, the possible outcomes are follows:
If BTC price goes up, and User B made around $400 profits, User A would make more (perhaps up to $700) because he purchased a leveraged BTC called BTCUP
On the other hand, if BTC prices falls, User B may be losing $400 for instance while User A (who bought the leveraged BTCUP) may be losing up to $700.
CAVEAT: The pros of leveraged tokens lies in the fact that it offers users the opportunity to trade in both market directions. However, its biggest con lies in the fact that the CEX (centralized exchange) providing these tokens control how rewards and values are distributed, meaning that users may find inequalities on how profits and losses are distributed.
